This is a different type of opportunity

recognizing that this is an opportunity to get students involved in debate that would not normally be involved
- lower barrier for engagement
- having scrimmages between schools
- having students debate topics that are not the national topic
- connecting debate with state standards so students can engage with class material as well
- 1 on 1 challenge debates (can get varsity debaters super engaged)
- recruiting students (how to get a novice into a tournament for the first time):
- keep the bar to entry low; with the CJR topic, there is already some sort of buy-in
- short lecture (10-15 min) on the topic and then have an activity around it
